Mostly known for his cinema soundtracks, Rota was able to merge the great Italian operatic tradition of Rossini, Puccini and Verdi into a contemporary musical language. I due timidi is drawn from a text of Italian writer Suso Cecchi d'Amico and the libretto of La notte di un nevrastenico was written by Riccardo Bacchelli. An all star cast is featured
